The Vampire Diaries alum Steven R. McQueen has returned to Instagram for the first time in five years.
On Thursday, October 8, McQueen, 38, shared a selfie with his 1.5 million followers and captioned the post, “Back to the gym. Any music suggestions?”
McQueen last posted to his Instagram grid in December 2021.
The actor’s Instagram comeback follows his recent return to the spotlight with a rare public appearance at a fan convention in Paris earlier this month. McQueen signed autographs and appeared on a panel.
McQueen’s Vampire Diaries costars Paul Wesley, Ian Somerhalder, Kat Graham and Riley Voelkel were also in attendance at the convention.
McQueen played Jeremy Gilbert, the younger brother of Nina Dobrev’s Elena Gilbert, in the first six seasons of The Vampire Diaries. He reprised the role in the show’s series finale in 2017.
The actor was later cast as Jimmy Borrelli in Chicago Fire and appeared as a series regular in seasons 4 and 5 before being written out.
“I think Steven has an incredibly bright future and deserves to be a bigger part on a show than probably we can give him,” Chicago Fire cocreator Michael Brandt told Entertainment Weekly at the time. “We were, as writers, finding it hard to feed all the mouths that we have on the show. There’s a lot of characters and there’s a lot of storylines and sometimes we see characters kind of falling through the cracks.”
McQueen’s last acting credit was the 2020 television film The Warrant.
McQueen, the grandson of legendary actor Steve McQueen, has largely remained out of the spotlight over the past several years. Before appearing in Paris, his last public appearance was in 2019.
In 2024, McQueen grieved the death of his father, actor and race car driver Chad McQueen, who died of organ failure in September 2024. He was 63.
Chad’s widow, Jeanie Galbraith, and the couple’s two children, Chase and Madison, announced his death via Instagram at the time. (Chad shared Steven with first wife Stacia Toten.)
“His remarkable journey as a loving father to us, along with his unwavering commitment to our mother, truly exemplified a life filled with love and dedication,” they said. “His passion for racing not only highlighted his exceptional talent, but also served as a way to honor his father’s legacy, a testament to the values instilled in him. He passed his passion, knowledge, and dedication down to us and we will continue not only his legacy but our grandfather’s as well. As a family we need to navigate this difficult time and we kindly ask for privacy as we remember and celebrate his extraordinary life.”
