Tony Romo had football fans and media observers scratching their heads with his analysis during the AFC wild-card matchup between the Jaguars and Bills.
Romo’s commentary drew plenty of criticism, starting with a confusing intro to the game that revolved around how open the game could be.
“I don’t think we’ve ever seen it where it’s like, who’s going to win? Ummmm, I don’t know!” Romo said on air. “I’m pretty good at football knowledge and I don’t know. Today’s going to be very telling, though, because Jacksonville is a complete football team. Carolina did that yesterday. They earned the respect, almost won, but they didn’t.
“Jacksonville is in that same situation. They could do it, this could be a major upset. Even though it’s really not an upset, because the Bills are actually the underdog. But they’re the overdog. We’ll see today.”
Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy was quick to point out that the Jaguars were actually the favorite after Romo’s winding speal on the game.
Social media was quick to jump all over Romo’s performance on air as well.
“Tony Romo is a complete embarrassment. It’s beyond time for CBS to demote or can him,” one person wrote on X.
“tony romo just says ‘it all comes down to this play, jim’ before every single play in the 4th quarter,” another person added.
“Tony Romo is currently on pace for the worst broadcast performance of all time,” a third person posted on the social media platform.
The Bills ended up winning the game, toppling the Jaguars 27-24 in Jacksonville to advance to the divisional round of the postseason.
Buffalo will need to wait to find out who they’ll play next weekend with the Patriots game against the Steelers playing an important factor in who they will see in the next round.
