Trae Young shouldn’t expect a friendly welcome in New York anytime soon.
The Hawks point guard renewed his role as Knicks antagonist on Wednesday night during a postgame interview on the court of State Farm Arena.
After the Knicks lost 121-116 to the Hawks, Young took it upon himself to rub salt in the wound of New Yorkers who had been in attendance for the game.
“I hope these New York fans find their way to the exit real, real quick,” Young said with a laugh.
The comment elicited cheers from the home crowd.
“Boo, take y’all ass home,” he added, which drew a chuckle from the interviewer.
Young had 23 points in the win over the Knicks on Wednesday and shot 7 of 23 from the field while knocking down three of his nine 3-point attempts.
Young persona as public enemy No. 1 for Knicks nation dates back to the 2021 NBA Playoffs when the Knicks battled the Hawks in the first round, and the star point guard helped lead Atlanta to a series win in five games, averaging 29.2 points a game and shot 44.1 percent.
Knicks fans have chanted “F–k Trae Young!” ever since, whether Young is at Madison Square Garden or not.
“Oh super funny. That s–t is hilarious,” Young said about the animosity he faces from Knicks fans during an appearance on “Podcast P with Paul George” back in August.
“I’ll never forget this young, little girl 10 — if I had to guess — maybe 10 to 12 just giving me the finger right behind the scorer’s table. I don’t say nothing to her, I just look at the dad and I’m like, that’s cool.”
Wednesday’s loss was the Knicks’ second consecutive defeat and their fourth loss in their first seven games of the season.
