NEED TO KNOW

President Trump posthumously awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom to “fearless warrior for liberty” Charlie Kirk, the conservative activist and Turning Point USA founder who was fatally shot, on what would have been his 32nd birthday.
The latest: Erika Kirk, the activist’s widow and current Turning Point CEO, accepted the medal on his behalf yesterday. “Charlie always said the next generation will decide whether freedom endures,” she said. Prosecutors plan to seek the death penalty for the suspected gunman. [USA Today]
Clamping down: Since Kirk’s death, Trump has pushed for sweeping measures against what he calls “radical left extremism,” deploying multiple federal agencies to investigate groups accused of political violence. Just yesterday, the State Department revoked six visas over comments about Kirk’s death. [Reuters/CBS News]
Rallying point: For some conservatives, Kirk is remembered as a martyr. In Dallas, thousands of women assembled this past weekend for a conference. “Welcome to the fight,” one speaker said. “The fight for truth, the fight for our Christian faith, the fight for our children.” [AP]
