The two men had a very public falling out in early June, which unfolded in a series of insults and allegations on social media.
Donald Trump is responding to Elon Musk’s latest comment about him.
In a post just after 3 a.m. ET on June 11, Musk shared he’s begun to “regret some of my posts about President [Donald Trump],” and that a few of his comments “went too far. Hours later, Trump shared his reaction with the New York Post.
“I thought it was very nice that he did that,” Trump told the outlet in a short phone interview.
The feud between the two men started bubbling up in late May, when Musk criticize Trump’s spending plan, known as the “Big, Beautiful Bill.” Later the same week, the Tesla CEO and Department of Government Efficiency leader left the Trump administration entirely, making room for Musk to speak freely and escalate the situation into a full-blown falling out.
“I’m sorry, but I just can’t stand it anymore,” Musk wrote in a June 3 post on X, referencing Republicans’ widespread support of Trump’s spending plan. “This massive, outrageous, pork-filled Congressional spending bill is a disgusting abomination. Shame on those who voted for it: you know you did wrong. You know it.”

Days later, the pair’s conflict peaked on the world stage after a series of aggressive social media posts on June 5.
In multiple posts to X, Musk made a range of explosive claims, including that Trump would have lost the 2024 election without his help, and that the president has purposefully kept the Jeffrey Epstein files sealed because he is in them — an allegation he later deleted.
Trump, in turn, claimed Musk was hurling insults at him only because President Joe Biden’s electric vehicle mandate — which directly impacts Musk’s Tesla sales — was set to be axed as a result of the “Big, Beautiful Bill.”
Later that day, Trump addressed Musk’s claims and their feud in an Oval Office press conference, admitting that their friendship had gone south.
“Elon and I had a great relationship. I don’t know if we will anymore,” he said.
“He’s got a problem. The poor guy’s got a problem,” Trump said the next day, adding he’s “not even thinking about Musk” and “won’t be speaking to him for a while,” per CNN.
