Tyson Foods announced that another plant will be closing its doors.
On Monday, the food processing company announced that it would close its Emporia, Kansas facility in February 2025.
Over 800 employees of the plant were notified about the closure in a letter.
“After carefully considering our options and the impact of this difficult decision, Tyson Foods regrets to inform you it must permanently end all operations and permanently close its Emporia, Kansas facility,” Ernesto Sanchez, vice president operations, beef and pork, said in the letter obtained by Topeka Capital-Journal, part of the USA TODAY Network.
A WARN notice from Kansasworks posted Monday said 809 employees at the Tyson plant in Emporia are affected. A WARN notice is required by federal law to provide workers with advance notice of a plant closing or mass layoffs. The notice is intended to give workers and families transition time.
The letter further details that the expected closure date is on or about Feb. 14, 2025.
“We are also working closely with state and local officials to provide additional resources to those who are impacted,” a Tyson Foods spokesperson told The Capital-Journal.
“Taking care of our team members is our top priority and we encourage them to apply for other open roles within the company,” the spokesperson said in the statement.

The Kansas plant’s impending closure comes after a string of shuttered Tyson facilities in recent years.
In 2023, Tyson Foods announced closures of plants in Indiana, Virginia, two in Arkansas and two in Missouri, USA TODAY previously reported.
And in March 2024, Tyson announced it would stop operations at its Perry, Iowa pork-packing plant. The summer closure of the Perry plant was expected to leave 1,276 workers at the city’s largest employer without jobs.
