Trevor Lawrence hurt his shoulder during the Jacksonville Jaguars’ last game. Is Trevor Lawrence playing today vs. the Minnesota Vikings?
The quarterback injured his left shoulder in last week’s loss at the Philadelphia Eagles. Trainers were tending to Lawrence during the first half while backup QB Mac Jones warmed up on the sideline.
Both ESPN’s Adam Schefter and NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport reported early Sunday morning that Lawrence will miss Sunday’s game with an AC joint sprain, and that his status for future games remains in question.
Lawrence never exited the game, finishing 16 of 31 for 169 yards with two interceptions and running for two touchdowns. But he was “leaning towards not playing” today, coach Doug Pederson said Friday, especially bad news since running backs Travis Etienne and Tank Bigsby and wide receivers Brian Thomas Jr. and Gabe Davis also have been battling injuries.

Here’s what we know about Lawrence’s injury status, his injury history and whether he is playing today vs. the Vikings:
Is Trevor Lawrence playing today?
Trevor Lawrence is officially inactive for the Jaguars against the Vikings. The Jags declared him inactive at 11:30 a.m. Sunday. Lawrence was previously listed as questionable Saturday, though coach Doug Pederson on Friday said he was “trending” missing today’s game vs. the Vikings.
“He’s been very limited all week. It is trending, obviously, in a way that’s probably to not playing or leaning towards not playing,” Pederson said. “But we’ll see today where he’s at. He felt good today and Mac (Jones is) ready to go if need be.”
Pederson has been noncommittal about Lawrence’s status throughout the week. He threw some balls but did not participate in some drills during Thursday’s and Friday’s practices.
Who is the Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback today?
With Trevor Lawrence unable to play, Mac Jones will be the starting quarterback. The Jacksonville native spent his first three NFL seasons with the New England Patriots, who took him with the No. 15 pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, before they traded him to the Jaguars in March.
“You plan your week like a starter,” Jones said this week. “So, I’ve been fortunate to kind of adjust that each week and figure out what works for me to feel confident on Sunday.”
The Jaguars signed C.J. Beathard off the Miami Dolphins practice squad to their active roster. He would be Jones’ backup. Beathard started the only other game Lawrence has missed since 2021 last season.
Is Trevor Lawrence hurt? What happened?
During the first half of the Jaguars’ game November 3 against the Philadelphia Eagles, Trevor Lawrence was seen getting attention from the training staff on the sideline. He had just taken a big hit from linebacker Zack Baun. Lawrence had gone 4 of 9 for 23 yards to that point.
Lawrence was late coming out of the locker room at halftime, but finished the game 16 of 31 for 169 yards and two interceptions. He ran for two touchdowns and was sacked twice.
Is Trevor Lawrence getting surgery?
Not yet. NFL Network reporter Ian Rapoport cited anonymous sources in a report Thursday saying Trevor Lawrence continues to “weigh options for the future.” Former Jaguars offensive coordinator Jay Gruden reacted by posting on social media: “Sources say surgery for Trevor. Damn. Get well man! Hope sources are wrong.”
Rapoport responded to the post with a clarification that no surgery had been scheduled yet. “There are several options immediate and down the road. That’s (surgery) one of them.”
Trevor Lawrence injury history
Trevor Lawrence has started 59 of a possible 60 games since entering the NFL in 2021. He missed Week 17 of the 2023 season against the Carolina Panthers.
He also was injured Oct. 15 of that season against the Indianapolis Colts, but still started the next game on Thursday night at the New Orleans Saints. Lawrence sustained ankle, knee, shoulder and head injures during the 2023 season and missed most of the team’s practices, whether completely or limited, during the final six games of the year.
