No. 8 Tennessee (18-4, 5-4 SEC) defeated No. 6 Florida (18-3, 5-3 SEC), 64-44, on Saturday at Food City Center. Rankings reflect the USA TODAY Men’s Basketball Coaches Poll.
The Vols had seven student-athletes available for the top 10 SEC matchup.
Senior guard Zakai Zeigler did not play for Tennessee due to a right knee injury. He is day-to-day and will continue to be evaluated. Senior forward Igor Milicic Jr. also did not play for the Vols against Florida with flu-like symptoms. His status is day-to-day and will continue to be evaluated.
Chaz Lanier led Tennessee in scoring with 19 points on Saturday. He converted 6-of-14 field goal attempts, 5-of-9 three-point attempts and 2-of-2 free throw attempts.
Jahmai Mashack and Felix Okpara led the Vols in rebounding (8). Mashack was also Tennessee’s leader in assists with five.
Tennessee totaled seven bench points, 34 points in the paint, nine points off turnovers, 10 second-chance points, 12 offensive rebounds and five fast break points.
The Vols out-rebounded Florida, 40-37, and the Gators committed 13 turnovers in the contest.
Tennessee will next play on Feb. 5 versus Missouri at Food City Center. Tipoff between the Vols and Tigers is slated for 7 p.m. EST (SEC Network).
