JOHNSTOWN, Pa. (WTAJ) — Voter turnout in Cambria and Somerset counties fell below 25% during Tuesday’s primary election, a sharp contrast to the high participation seen during last November’s general election.
According to our media partners at The Tribune-Democrat, just under 19,000 voters cast ballots in Cambria County, and about 10,000 voted in Somerset County. With municipal, school board and judicial races on the ballot, both counties saw only a fraction of the turnout recorded during the 2024 presidential election cycle.
Cambria County saw approximately 23% of its registered voters participate, while Somerset County recorded a turnout of about 24%.
Election officials say the low turnout aligned with expectations for a non-presidential election year.
In November, more than 110,000 voters from both counties participated in the general election, which included high-profile races for president, U.S. Senate, Congress and state offices.

Despite the drop in voter activity, county officials noted that the workload for staff remained consistent with past elections.
