A community grocery store in Madison, Wisconsin, looked more like a pool after a partial roof collapse flooded its aisles on Monday, June 23.

Woodman’s Food Market, located on Madison’s east side, shared details about the incident in a social media post on Tuesday, June 24, reassuring the public that no one was hurt.

While the store remains open in the midst of structural damage assessments by engineers, contractors and safety officials, videos from inside captured the dramatic scene.

In one clip, a gush of water can be seen rushing through a gaping hole in the ceiling, creating a dirty river in the store’s aisles below. Products fallen from shelves bob in the flooding as a responder looks on.

In photos shared with USA TODAY by the Madison Fire Department, firefighters can be seen in ankle-deep water looking at the structural rubble hanging from the ceiling.

While cleanup is underway, the store is waiving fees for online shopping at nearby locations, as reported by the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, part of the USA TODAY Network.

“The safety and well-being of our customers, team members, and community is our top priority,” the grocer said in a Facebook post. “We extend our gratitude to the emergency responders, local authorities, and service departments who responded swiftly and professionally. Their timely intervention was critical in securing the area and ensuring everyone’s safety.”
