Anne Burrell, the celebrity chef best known for hosting Worst Cooks in America, died at age 55 on Tuesday, June 17, 2025, at her home in Brooklyn, New York. Her death was confirmed by her representatives in a statement obtained by People.

According to TMZ, EMS personnel responded to a 911 call Tuesday morning reporting a woman in cardiac arrest. Law enforcement sources said paramedics found Burrell unresponsive and declared her dead at the scene. The medical examiner will conduct an autopsy to determine the official cause of death.

Burrell’s family said, “Anne was a beloved wife, sister, daughter, stepmother, and friend – her smile lit up every room she entered. Anne’s light radiated far beyond those she knew, touching millions across the world. Though she is no longer with us, her warmth, spirit, and boundless love remain eternal.”

Her husband Stuart Claxton, his son Javier, her mother Marlene, her sister Jane, her brother Ben, and her children Isabella, Amelia, and Nicolas survive her. Burrell met Claxton on Bumble in 2018 and married him on October 16, 2021.

Born on September 21, 1969, in Cazenovia, New York, Burrell studied at Canisius College before enrolling at the Culinary Institute of America, graduating in 1996. She also trained at the Italian Culinary Institute for Foreigners and worked at Felidia and Savoy in New York.

Burrell became a familiar face on Iron Chef America and later hosted the Emmy-nominated Secrets of a Restaurant Chef. She appeared on Chopped, Chef Wanted, Food Network Star, and most recently House of Knives, which premiered in March 2025.

She authored two cookbooks: Cook Like a Rock Star (2011) and Own Your Kitchen (2013). Burrell supported charitable causes through City Harvest, Garden of Dreams Foundation, and the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
