In Steve Cohen World, there is a sense that the Mets do not have to play the either/or game.
The Mets do not have to decide whether to spend big in Aisle A or Aisle B. They can afford both while keeping an eye on Aisle C as well.
I don’t think anyone in the sport would be surprised if Cohen approved a $1 billion-plus offseason outlay akin to what the Dodgers did last year in upgrading their talent en route to a championship.
Cohen has mentioned the Dodgers as a model for baseball operations he would like to follow. The Dodgers were the team that beat the Mets in the NLCS — so Cohen knows where the pennant runs through for a while. And after taking such a positive step as in 2024, the Mets owner would like to sustain the positive energy and momentum.
