What we lose when we stop rooting for wins

This isn’t Madden or NBA 2K. You can’t hit “simulate rest of the season” and jump right to the draft or free agency. Each game must actually be played.

That’s why the desperate calls to tank are perennially lame.

This year, those desires are being expressed in New York by fans of the Giants, Jets and Nets. All three teams are near the bottom of the standings. Losses are actually desirable, these fans say, to improve draft positions.

Lame.
