July 4, the US’ Independence Day, is quickly approaching. Here’s what to know.
Is July 4 a federal holiday?
Friday, July 4 is one of the 11 federal holidays in 2025. The next federal holiday won’t come until Monday, Sept. 1, which is Labor Day.

Are banks open on July 4?
Banks generally closed on the same days as the Federal Reserve, which follows the federal holiday schedule above in 2025, according to Business Insider.
With Independence Day a Friday, if it is a payday, you may want to consult with your employer as to when your paycheck will drop in your account as well as look at any payments due or automatically made on July 4. Online bank transactions also aren’t typically processed on federal holidays.
However, ATMs are often available for those who need to deposit or withdraw money on federal holidays.
Is mail delivered on July 4? Are the Post Office, other deliverers open?
The United States Post Office is also closed on all federal holidays in 2025, including July 4, and does not deliver regular mail on those days.
The Post Office does still deliver items sent through Priority Mail Express on federal holidays, however. And customers can still “order stamps, print shipping labels, order boxes and other mail supplies, and request package pickups” on USPS.com during federal holidays, according to AARP.
UPS will not have regular pickup or deliveries on July 4, as it is one of the company holidays, but UPS Express Critical service is available. UPS store locations may be closed. Check your local location for specific hours.
FedEx, FedEx Freight, and FedEx Logistics are all closed on Independence Day. FedEx Custom Critical deliveries will be made and FedEx office (retail locations) will have modified hours.
Most other government offices will be closed on the Fourth of July.

Are stores, restaurants, amusement parks open July 4?
Several stores and restaurants will be open on July 4, although some may have different hours than you’re used to. It is best to call ahead or check online to confirm the specific store or restaurant you’re visiting is open, as many have already confirmed their hours for Independence Day this year.
However, consumers needing to pick up last-minute burgers, chips or refreshments for their Fourth of July gathering will have plenty of options this year. Although Costco will be closed July 4, as the retailer typically closes for that and six other holidays according to its website, other companies such as Walmart and Target will be open on the holiday. Trader Joe’s states they will be open until 5 p.m., and Aldi will be open, albeit with “limited hours,” according to its website.
Sam’s Club states it will open between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. for Plus members, and from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. for Club members. Yonkers’ Whole Foods notes it will be open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. that day.
Of note, Playland will be open July 4, as the park’s display above Long Island Sound will return that day (and continue every night through Aug. 29.)
