With only weeks to go until the presidential election, the vice-presidential candidates will debate each other in their first and only scheduled debate.

Sen. JD Vance of Ohio and Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz are taking a break from the campaign trail and heading to the debate stage at the CBS Broadcast Center in New York City on Tuesday, Oct. 1.

The debate comes three weeks after Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump met for the first time and hashed out the issues in their presidential debate in Philadelphia on Tuesday, Sept. 10.

When is the VP debate 2024?

The debate starts at 7 p.m. MT/ 8 p.m. CT on Tuesday, Oct. 1.

It is scheduled to run for 90 minutes.

Who is moderating the vice presidential debate?

“CBS Evening News” anchor Norah O’Donnell and “Face the Nation” anchor Margaret Brennan will moderate the debate on Tuesday.

How can you watch the vice presidential debate?

CBS will air debate coverage on its CBS broadcast stations and affiliates. The debate will also be streamed on the CBS News app, Paramount+, CBSNews.com and YouTube.

What are the rules for the debate?

Unlike the presidential debate, microphones will not be muted when their opponent speaks, but CBS News reserves the right to turn off the microphones.

Campaign staff are not allowed to interact with the candidates during the breaks.

There will also be no audience.
