Aaron Boone joked Monday about Juan Soto looking “terrible” in a Mets uniform when the manager saw his former player at Clover Park in Port St. Lucie. And despite having his ace, Gerrit Cole, go down with season-ending Tommy John surgery, it’s easy to understand why Boone and the Yankees are light-hearted heading into 2025.
They’ve got Aaron Judge coming off another historic season and they’re counting on highly-paid left-hander Max Fried to help make up for Cole’s absence.
The attitude is similar in Mets camp, who have Soto locked up and plenty of other weapons that should make them among the most dangerous teams in the National League.
With Opening Day just two days away, it seems fair to wonder if this is the best combined era for the two teams.
