Winona Ryder has acted in a lot of romances on screen, but the actress admitted she once had the hots for Al Pacino.
Ryder, 53, opened up about her past crush on Pacino, 85, in a Wednesday, July 23, interview with Elle.
“I was absolutely in love with Al Pacino when I was working with him,” the Stranger Things actress confessed. “We were doing that workshop for Richard III, which I didn’t know was gonna be a movie. I was actively in love with him. He was obsessed with coffee, and he would take me all over New York — like, to the weirdest places — to try different coffees. I’m 22, or whatever.”
She continued, “Finally, he’s dropping me off wherever I’m staying, and I’m like, ‘I love you, you know. I really am completely in love with you.’”
Ryder mimicked Pacino reaching for her hand to politely reject her and tell her, “Aw, honey, noooo.” A decade later, she crossed paths with Pacino again.
“Then, like, 10 years later, I meet his girlfriend, who’s younger than me,” she recalled. “‘Dude, I’m f***ing throwing myself at you.’ I still play poker with him sometimes. It’s the best.”
Pacino has been linked to several famous faces over the years, including Diane Keaton, Penelope Ann Miller and Beverly D’Angelo.
Luckily for Ryder, she was able to find real love with Scott Mackinlay Hahn. The couple has been together since 2011. Ryder first met the fashion designer at the 2010 premiere of Black Swan.
“We have so much in common,” Ryder told Harper’s Bazaar in June 2022. “We connected on so many levels. But it was amazing that he’s not in this business. … I really did try to keep it quiet.”
She revealed that Hahn initially mistook her for another Hollywood actress when they first met.
“He thought I was Milla Jovovich,” Ryder playfully shared. “He told me I was great in The Fifth Element.”
While Ryder has been one of the most famous faces in Hollywood since she was a teen, some of her favorite moments with Hahn are spent out of the spotlight.
“We’re homebodies when it comes to food,” Hanh told Elle of their romance, with Ryder adding, “He has this gift that my mom had, which is making healthy food delicious. He made a curry last night that was better than any curry I’ve ever had.”
