Kevin Federline is supportive of Britney Spears’ decision to receive some professional help.

“Kevin is aware of the reports that she has checked into rehab and that if she needs help, he is happy that she is getting help and that the decision appears to be one that she made and not one imposed upon her by others if it was,” Federline’s attorney, Mark Vincent Kaplan, shared with TMZ on Monday, April 13. “The key is that whatever the recommended treatment plan is that she follows it and completes it.”

Over the weekend, a rep for Spears, 44, confirmed to Us Weekly that the pop singer voluntarily checked herself into a treatment facility.

The news came more than a month after the “Gimme More” singer was arrested for driving under the influence near her home in Ventura County, California.

“This was an unfortunate incident that is completely inexcusable,” Spears’ rep told Us on March 4 after the arrest was confirmed. “Britney is going to take the right steps and comply with the law, and hopefully this can be the first step in long overdue change that needs to occur in Britney’s life. Hopefully, she can get the help and support she needs during this difficult time. Her boys are going to be spending time with her. Her loved ones are going to come up with an overdue, needed plan to set her up for success for well-being.”

Federline’s attorney also spoke out after Spears’ arrest, saying his client “hopes for the best” for his ex-wife.

“If help is necessary, he hopes that she will neither resist it or those who are attempting to work with her,” Kaplan said in a statement to TMZ on March 6. “The concern is whether this is just a one-off or a one more.”

Spears and Federline — who share Sean Preston, 20, and Jayden James, 19 — have had a distant relationship ever since they finalized their divorce in 2007 after three years of marriage. The exes wed in October 2004 before Spears filed for divorce in November 2006, citing irreconcilable differences as the reason behind their split.

In October 2025, Federline decided to defend himself from Spears and other critics after releasing a memoir about his marriage to the singer.

“Money’s not the root of this thing,” he exclusively shared with Us while promoting You Thought You Knew. “I feel like, if she has the right to tell her story, why don’t I?”

Spears and her team, however, saw things a little differently.

“With news from Kevin’s book breaking, once again he and others are profiting off her, and sadly, it comes after child support has ended with Kevin,” Spears’ rep told Us at the time. “All she cares about are her kids, Sean Preston and Jayden James, and their well-being during this sensationalism. She detailed her journey in her memoir.”

A source previously told Us that Federline’s book wasn’t the catalyst for her recent DUI arrest. While the memoir “did upset her deeply and definitely didn’t help matters,” the insider said Spears’ issues “predate the book.”
